Paul Chelimo Named SoCon Runner Of The Month

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya/Chebiemit Boys School) has been named the Southern Conference Runner of the Month for the second straight month the league office announced Tuesday.

Chelimo, who won the award for award in September as well, won his second straight SoCon Cross Country Championship in October. He posted a the league's top time in the 8,000-meter race of 23:42.22, more than 15 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. With the win, he earned SoCon Runner of the Year accolades for the second straight season and helped the Spartans post a third place team finish.
 
Chelimo owns the top three times in the SoCon this season, including a sub-23 minute time of 22:59.62 at the Greater Louisville Classic where he finished third. He also posted a second place finish at the Pre-National events with a time of 23:14.00.
 
Chelimo and the Spartans will head to the NCAA Southeast Cross Country Regional Friday for the 10,000-meter race at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.
