UNCG’s Chelimo earns SoCon Runner of the Week honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG's Paul Chelimo has been named the Southern Conference men's cross country Runner of the Week for his performance at the Elon Invitational Saturday, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The Chebiemit, Kenya, native won the invitational title with a time of 23:40, which shattered the previous course record set last season by teammate Mike Koech by 1:14

Chelimo's time also set a new school record at UNCG as he bested teammate Joey Thompson's time by 40 seconds.

Chelimo and his teammates finished 1-4 and also added two others in the top-10 as UNCG captured the team title with a score of 17 points.

The Spartans will return to action on Sept. 30 as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Run.
