NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UNCG men's cross country team earned All-Academic status for the 2011 season on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.

This season, the men's squad had a cumulative GPA of 3.50 en route to winning the Southern Conference team title for the first time in school history.

Last week, Paul Chelimo, Paul Katam and Joey Thompson were honored as All-Academic individuals for the 2011 season.

The Spartans were one of the seven schools from the Southern conference to earn this distinction.
