SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG men's cross country runner Paul Chelimo has been selected as the Southern Conference's Runner of the Month, the league office announced on Thursday.

Chelimo, a native of Kenya, began his UNCG career at the Elon Invitational on Sept. 17. In that race, Chelimo took top individual honors by completing the 8k course in a time of 23:40. That time not only set a new course record, but also eclipsed UNCG's school record by 40 seconds.

For his efforts at the Elon Invitational, Chelimo was named the SoCon Runner of the Week on Sept. 21.

Chelimo returned to competition this past weekend at the 38th annual Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., and  once again took top individual honors in a race that featured seven top-25 programs from around the nation.

After finishing the race in a time of 23:55, Chelimo claimed SoCon Runner of the Week honors on Wednesday.

The Spartans return to competition on Saturday as they compete at the Wilbur Ross Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C.
