Sumneys Battle In 5,000-Meters At Stanford Invitational 04-05-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG outdoor track seniors Shaina Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) travelled out to Stanford, Calif., this weekend for the annual Stanford Invitational and were two of 113 runners in the 5,000-meter distance at the Cobb Track and Angel Field.

Shaina ran in Section 3 of the five-section 5,000-meter distance and finished fourth in her heat. She posted a personal-best time of 16:26.39, trimming almost 10 seconds off her previous top tim of 16:35 set at the Virginia Challenge in 2012. Chelsea ran in Section 5 of the 5,000-meter distance and turned in a time of 17:19.80 to finish 15th in her heat.

The Sumneys lead UNCG into the Joe Hilton Invitational April 11-12 in Chapel Hill, the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Championships in Spartanburg April 28.
