Track & Field Wraps Up Flotrack Husky Event & Clemson Tiger Paw
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG track and field program wrapped up its events in the Flotrack Husky Classic and the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational Saturday.
Junior Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya/Chebiemit Boys School) was the Spartans third and final runner at the prestigious Flotrack event in Seattle, Wash. Chelimo ran the 3,000-meter race for the first time this season as he is coming back from an injury and posted a 8:06.71 in the Elite portion of the race to finish 32nd overall.
At the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, the women were led by Shannon Hall (Waldorf, Md./North Point) who turned in a personal-best time in the mile run at 5:17.69 to finish 36th. Hall trimmed over 10 seconds off her top time from last year (5:28.43) at the Fast Track Invite.
Sophomore Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus) posted the Spartans top finish of the afternoon placing third in the 3,000-meter race. Kemboi turned in a time of 8:35.21, finishing just behind the leader Oscar Ogwaro at 8:22.00.
In the men's mile run, sophomores Eric Williams (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) and Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C./Coker College) turned in personal bests. Williams placed 36th overall with a time of 4:27.27, cutting four seconds off his previous best. Cain placed 40th in the event, clocking in at 4:29.38 trimming over 10 seconds off his previous best time set just two weekends ago.
UNCG returns to the track next weekend as it travels to Chapel Hill for the Kent Taylor Invitational Feb. 16. The event is the final meet prior to the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24.
