Hall Qualifies For Finals On Day One Of Women's Track & Field SoCon Championships
STATESBORO, Ga. – Junior runner Shannon Hall (Waldorf, Md./North Point) highlighted the UNCG women's track and field program on day one of the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in Statesboro, Ga., hosted by Georgia Southern at Eagle Field.
Hall qualified for the finals of the 800-meter race after posting a career-best time of 2:13.01 to finish eighth in the preliminaries. Her time was over a second faster than her previous career-best time of 2:14.57 set earlier this month at the Duke Invitational. The top eight times in the preliminaries advanced to the event finals set for Sunday afternoon at 2:50 p.m. Hall also placed 12th in the 400-meter dash Saturday with a time of 58.61.
Freshman Meredith Hicks (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) turned in a career-best time in the 800-meter distance as well. Hicks posted a time of 2:36.63 to finish 23rd in the heats, besting her previous top time by .08 seconds which was set earlier this year at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational in the first outdoor meet of the season.
Freshman Haley Wenos (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) rounded out the Spartans' top performers Saturday as she posted a 15th place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Wenos turned in a time of 1:10.01, just off her career-best time which was set at the Wake Forest Open (1:09.07).
The Spartans will continue the 2013 SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championships Sunday with events beginning at 12:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony slated for 5:45 p.m.
