Several PRs fall on first day of Duke Invitational 04-05-2012

DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG's track and field teams ran several personal best times at the Duke Invitational on Friday, highlighted by Abraham Kemboi's second-place finish in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:03.15.

Chelsea Sumney and Shaina Sumney also set new personal bests in the seeded section of the 1,500 meters en route to fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

The impressive performances continued for the women in the developmental 1,500m, as Jade Farlow finished fifth overall in a time of 4:59.35, Chelsea Willette set a personal record with 5:02.02 and Emily Vasquez ran a season-best 5:06.70 to win her heat.  

On the men's side, Tyron Alston broke his personal best time set earlier this year, running 4:00.93 to finish 26th overall in the 1,500m. Taylor Day finished 45th in the event with a time of 4:07.23.  

Freshman Dylan Belles had an impressive debut in the 10,000m, running 32:44.63, which qualifies him for the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 15-17, in Bloomington, Ind.

The second day of competition will begin Saturday morning with the women's developmental 800 meters.
