SoCon honors Schnell for second straight week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG redshirt senior Ashley Schnell was named the Southern Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Wednesday. Selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

The Lincoln, Neb., native ran a personal best in the 5000 meters at the prestigious Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday. With a time of 16:01.54, Schnell posted the top time in the NCAA East Region and the fifth-best time overall in the NCAA.

Schnell shattered her own school record in the event by 34 seconds and leads the league by 17 seconds.

UNCG is back in action at the Southern Conference Championships in Cullowhee, N.C., April 21-22.
