GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s soccer midfielder Rouven Wahlfeldt (Velbert, Germany/Gymnasium Waldstrasse) and defender Hugo Coicaud (Le Harve, France/Saint-Joseph) were both named Top 100 Freshmen in the Nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com in the midseason report released this weekend.
Wahlfeldt has started all 15 games for the Spartans this season in the central midfield position and is rated No. 81 in the top 100 list. He has scored three points on the year while helping the Spartans post six shutouts as a team. He scored his first career goal in UNCG’s second half rally against Campbell, while also assisting the game-tying goal.
Coicaud has moved into the central defender position and started all 15 games as well. He is rated No. 94 in the top 100 this season. He has helped to anchor the Spartans’ back line, which has posted six shutouts, second most in the Southern Conference this season. His play has helped UNCG to a 2-1-1 record so far this season in league play.
The Spartans return to action Saturday night as they host SoCon foe Georgia Southern for the 2013 UNCG Homecoming. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium with a free fireworks show following the game.
