Menís Soccer Travels To Campbell Saturday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s soccer team hits the road Saturday night for its final tune-up entering Southern Conference play as the Spartans travel down the road to Buies Creek to face Big South member Campbell. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Eakes Athletic Complex with live stats available via Campbell at www.uncgspartans.com
UNCG enters the game with a 5-5-0 record on the year, including a 2-2-0 mark on the road. The Spartans are coming off a 3-2 double overtime loss this week at Georgia State. Sophomore Noah DeAngelo (Burlington, N.C./Bishop McGuiness) and senior Oddur Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Breidholti) scored the Spartans’ two goals in the loss that saw GSU tie the game with 36 left in regulation.
Junior forward David Reittinger (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest) leads the team in scoring with nine points as he has scored a team-high four goals and handed out an assist. Senior Brian Graham (Bowie, Md./Bowie) is second on the team in scoring at eight points as he has scored two goals and handed out four assists. Graham assisted on both of the Spartans’ goals at Georgia State.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Moffitt (Burlington, N.C./Williams) has played every minute in goal for the Spartans and has a 1.28 goals against average. Moffitt has posted five shutouts this season with all five victories coming on blank sheets.
Campbell enters Saturday’s game with a 1-6-1 record overall and a 1-0-0 record in the Big South Conference. The Camels have played a tough non-conference schedule with three games against nationally ranked opponents with loss to North Carolina, at Charlotte and Elon. Campbell has picked up a win this season against VMI and has tied UNCW.
The Camels have scored six goals through eight games and allowed 15 goals against, including three against No. 20 Elon last time out (3-0). Justin Franz leads Campbell in scoring with six points as he has scored two goals and dished out two assists while Ricki Gaez has scored one goal and handed out three assists. Ethan Hall has played every minute in goal for the Camels this season and has a 1.81 goals against average.
UNCG and Campbell have met 20 times prior to Saturday’s contest with the Spartans holding a 14-4-2 record all-time against the Camels. The Spartans and Camels have not played since 2010 when UNCG recorded a 1-1 tie at home at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Spartans have been unbeaten in the last 11 meetings against Campbell, holding a 9-0-2 record against the Camels since 1995.
