GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior forward Hakan Ilhan (Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. This is Ilhan's first SoCon weekly award this season and the Spartans' second of the year as Maximilian Schulz picked up honors in the first week of the season.
Ilhan was also named to the College Soccer news National Team of the Week after leading the Spartans to a 2-0-0 start in SoCon play with victories over Davidson and Appalachian State. He scored six points on the week, posting four assists and scoring a goal. He tied the UNCG single-game record for assists in a game, handing out four helpers in the first half against Davidson. His four assists are a single-game record for UNCG in the NCAA Division I era.
Ilhan followed that performance up Saturday night scoring the game-winning goal against Appalachian State. The goal was his team-leading sixth of the season and helped the Spartans avenge their lone regular season loss from last season.
Ilhan and the Spartans return to action tonight as they host Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
