Men's Soccer Travels To Furman Saturday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's soccer team hits the road for the final time in regular season play Saturday night as the Spartans travel to Furman for a Southern Conference battle. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Stone Soccer Stadium with live stats and video courtesy of Furman available at www.uncgspartans.com.

Saturday's game marks the 27th meeting all-time between UNCG and Furman with the evenly matched series tied 13-13-1 all-time. The Spartans have won five straight against the Paladins, including a 2-0 victory at home last year. In that game, forward Hakan Ilhan (Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute heading in an Aaron Reifschneider (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) free kick to score the game's first goal.
 
UNCG has scored 21 goals in 13 games this season with 10 different players having scored goals. Ilhan leads the Spartans with 18 points on the year as he has a team-high six goals while also leading the squad with six assists. Junior Maximilian Schulz (Northeim, Germany/Gymnasium Corvinianum) is second on the team with five assists while also adding a goal.
 
Junior Oddur Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Breidholti) is second on the team in scoring with five goals. The Spartans have allowed 19 goals against this season as fifth-year senior goalkeeper Peyton Ford (Jamestown, N.C./Southwest Guilford) has a 1.58 goals against average.
 
Furman enters Saturday's game with a 10-2-3 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in Southern Conference play. The Paladins are coming off a 2-1 victory over Davidson after posting a 1-1 tie against Appalachian State. Furman has scored 32 goals this season while allowing just 14 goals against.
 
The Paladins are led by Martin Ontiveros who has scored a team-high 22 points, on the strength of eight goals and five assists. Ontiveros is a perfect 3-of-3 from the penalty spot this year and has tallied two game-winning goals. Walker Zimmerman is second on the team in scoring with 13 points from the back line as he has scored five goals and handed out three assists.
