GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's soccer team continues its four-game home stand Tuesday night as the Spartans step out of Southern Conference action and host Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson. The Spartans enter Tuesday's contest riding a two-game winning streak after opening SoCon play with victories over Davidson and Appalachian State to improve to 4-4-2 on the year. UNCG is led by senior forward Hakan Ilhan
(Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) who was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week Monday after posting six points in the Spartans' two victories.
Ilhan leads the team with 17 points on the year, which ranks second in the SoCon, as he has scored six goals and dished out five assists. Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Peyton Ford
(Jamestown, N.C./Southwest Guilford) has recorded back-to-back shutouts for the Spartans
Clemson enters the game with a 3-5-2 overall record but have played four nationally ranked teams. The Tigers are riding a two-game winning streak in the ACC having picked up wins over NC State and Virginia. Clemson has been out-scored by a 12-7 margin as only four players have scored goals for the Tigers. Ara Amirkhanian and Austin Savage lead the way with two goals apiece.
Tuesday's game marks the eighth meeting all-time between UNCG and Clemson with the Spartans trailing the series by a 2-5-0 margin. The game marks the first meeting between the two teams since 2004 when UNCG recorded a 2-0 victory over the Tigers in Greensboro.
