Hakan Ilhan Selected Eighth Overall In MLS Supplemental Draft By Montreal
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior forward Hakan Ilhan (Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) was selected eighth overall in the first round of the 2013 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft by the Montreal Impact. Ilhan was the first player from the Southern Conference drafted in the Supplemental Draft and the 46th player overall selected after the first two rounds of the MLS Super Draft.
"I am extremely excited that Hakan has been taken in the first round of the Supplemental Draft," head coach Justin Maullin said. "We have had several players drafted into the MLS over the years and Hakan is certainly up there with the highest quality. His back-to-goal play, his movement around the box and his overall soccer savvy should translate into having a very good future at Montreal. I want to thank Montreal and their staff for showing confidence in Hakan and we wish him well in his professional endeavors."
Ilhan becomes the sixth Spartan all-time to be drafted into the MLS since the inaugural draft in 1996.
