GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team will co-host the prestigious Bryan National Collegiate this weekend with Wake Forest at the Bryan Park Champions Course March 28-30. The three-day, 54-hole event will feature 18 holes each day with a shotgun start Friday, tee times Saturday beginning at 8:20 a.m. while Sunday will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The field includes co-hosts UNCG and No. 19 Wake Forest along with No. 3 Duke, No. 8 South Carolina, No. 13 Clemson, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 18 Florida, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 23 NC State, No. 26 Ohio State, No. 27 North Carolina, Virginia, Louisville, Florida State, Tennessee, College of Charleston, Penn State and UNCW.
Sophomore Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) leads the Spartans into the Bryan National with a 76.57 stroke average on the year, ranking 15th in the Southern Conference. Buchanan is coming off back-to-back top 15 finishes as she placed 13th last time out at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational while posting a third place showing at the Kiawah Invitational.
Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) is the Spartans’ number two golfer and is coming off a 50th place showing at the Eagle Landing Invitational. Bjornsdottir opened that event with a career-high 3-under par 69 in round one. Also playing for the Spartans in the lineup this weekend is freshman Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), sophomore Andrea Rangel (Bogota, Columbia/Collegio la Presentacion) and freshman Maddie MacClurg (Cary, N.C./Green Hope).
