GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team returns to action this weekend as it travels to Greenville, S.C., to take part in the Lady Paladin Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event runs Friday-Sunday at the par-72, 6,266-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Friday and Saturday will see 9 a.m. tee times on holes No. 1 and No. 10, while Sunday will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available via www.golfstat.com and www.uncgspartans.com.
The 2013 Lady Paladin Invitational includes Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida State, Furman, George Regents, Georgia State, Houston, Kennessaw State, Nova Southeastern, Samford, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, UNC Wilmington, Wisconsin and Wofford.
The Spartans opened the 2013-14 season with a 19th place showing at the Cougar Classic in Charleston. The young Spartans will send one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen to Furman in the five-member lineup. Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) posted the top score for UNCG in the season debut, placing 80th overall with a 77.33 stroke average after three rounds.
Sophomores Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) and Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) tied for 91st in the Cougar Classic with scores of 237. Freshman Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) will play in her second collegiate event this weekend while classmate Maddie MacClurg (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) will make her UNCG debut at Furman.
