Fanny Cnops Moves Up 41 Spots In Final Round At NCAA Central Regional
NORMAN, Okla. – UNCG sophomore women's golfer Fanny Cnops (Ghent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) posted her best round of the week with a 3-under par 69 Saturday in the third and final round of the NCAA Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Cnops' season ends with her second straight appearance in the NCAA Regional as she did not earn a bid into the NCAA Finals, which is awarded to the top eight teams and top two individuals of each regional. She finished her second postseason appearance with a 6-over par 222 (74-79-69) placing 35th overall. She improved her showing by two strokes and six spots in the final standings from last year's NCAA East Regional (41st place, 224).
Cnops' 69 score is tied for her fourth-lowest score of the season. She posted six birdies on the afternoon to overcome three bogeys for the 3-under par score. She was even after 11 holes, but notched three consecutive birdies on holes No. 3-5 before ending the tournament with four straight pars.
Third-ranked Duke won the event with a 13-under par 851 after firing a tournament-low 12-under par 276 in the final round. Fourth-ranked Oklahoma was second with a 7-under par 857 while Mississippi State, No. 9 Florida, No. 15 Arizona state, No. 16 UC Davis, Wisconsin and No. 27 Michigan State finished in the top eight and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament Finals.
Mississippi State's Ally McDonald, ranked No. 29 in the country, took home the individual title with a 10-under par 206 after posting scores of 69-69-68. Oklahoma teammates AC Tanguay and Emily Collins finished tied for second with a 5-under par 211 along with Duke's Alejandra Cangrejo.
Washington's Ying Luo and Wake Forest's Olafia Kristindottir finished tied for eighth overall with a 1-under par to earn the two individual spots in the NCAA Tournament, edging out four other golfers at 1-over par.
