Women's Golf Finishes 15th At Bryan National Collegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team posted its best round of the weekend Sunday posting a 305 to move up to 15th place in the final standings of the 2013 Bryan National Collegiate co-hosted by the Spartans and Wake Forest at Bryan Park Champions Course. The Spartans posted a 927 score in the 54-hole event (316-306-305).
Sophomore Fanny Cnops (Ghent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) led the way as she improved 26 spots on the final day to finish in a tie for 17th overall. Cnops fired a weekend-best 2-under par 70 Sunday to finish with a 5-over par 221 (78-73-70) on the course where she finished second last season. She posted four birdies on the afternoon, including a stretch of three straight on holes No. 7-9.
Virginia won the event as it led from start to finish with a 869 (281-293-295) while Arkansas was second with a 873 (294-289-290). Georgia's Emily Burger came from behind on the final day to claim the victory as she fired a 3-under 69 Sunday to finish with a 5-under par score for the tournament defeating Brittany Altomare of Virginia by one stroke.
Freshman Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) completed her solid weekend of play with her best score of the tournament. Buchanan posted a 3-over par 75 to finish with a 233 (79-79-75) to finish is a tie for 68th place. Freshman Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) placed 80th on the weekend with a 239 (80-79-80).
The Spartans return to action next weekend as they take part in the Lady Seahawk Classic in Wilmington in the final tune-up before the Southern Conference championships April 14-16 in Hilton Head, S.C.
