Women's Golf Completes Day One At Bryan National Collegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf program concluded day one of the 16th annual Bryan National Collegiate Friday afternoon at the Bryan Park and Enrichment Center Champions Course. The Bryan National is co-hosted by UNCG and Wake Forest with the 54-hole event running three days this weekend with 18 holes played each day. The Spartans will tee off round two Saturday morning between 9:50-10:26 on the 10th hole with live scoring available via www.golfstat.com.
Sophomore Fanny Cnops (Ghent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) paced the Spartans with a 6-over par 78 in round one to sit in a tie for 64th place. Senior Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) and freshmen Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) are tied for 72nd place after 18-holes as both carded 7-over par 79 Friday.
Elizabeth Brightwell of Virginia leads the tournament with a 4-under par 68 while Rene Sobolewski of Vanderbilt is second with a 3-under par 69. Virginia leads the team portion of the tournament as it posted a 281 to lead by five strokes as the Cavaliers placed three players in the top four of the individual standings. UNCG finished day one with a 316 to sit in 17th place.
The Champions Course at Bryan Park opened in 1990 and has proven to be a Rees Jones Masterpiece of design. Seven holes border scenic Lake Townsend. Ranked in 1990 as the runner-up best new public course in the country by Golf Digest, the Champions Course also hosted the 2012 US Public Links Championship.
