Courtney Taylor Named SoCon Women’s Golfer Of The Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior women's golfer Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) has been named the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the first weekly honor of Taylor's career and the first for the Spartans in the spring season.
Taylor finished 10th overall in the 84-player field at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., last weekend as she moved up 24 spots on the final day of play. Her 10th place finish is her top finish of the season and best showing since placing fifth overall at the SoCon Championships her freshman year (2010).
Taylor finished the three-round tournament with a 2-over par 218 (71-78-69). Her final round score of 69 is her lowest round of her collegiate career, surpassing a score of 70 set a the Sun Trust Gator Invite as a freshman. Her scored helped the Spartans post a 298 in the final round, the second-lowest score of the year for UNCG moving it up four spots in the team standings to ninth overall.
Taylor and the Spartans return to action March 29-31 when they co-host the Bryan National with Wake Forest at the Bryan Park Country Club. The 54-hole event will see 18 holes played each day throughout the weekend at the Triad golf course.
