Taylor Finishes 10th, Women's Golf Ninth At Mountain View Collegiate
TUCSON, Ariz. – The UNCG women's golf senior Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) moved up 24 spots on the final day to finish 10th overall in the 54-hole event at the Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Missouri State and Kanas State at the Mountain View Golf Club in Arizona. Taylor's play led the Spartans to a ninth place team finish, moving up four spots in the final 18 holes.
Taylor fired a career-best 3-under par 69 Saturday afternoon to move up to 10th place overall after starting the day in 34th position. She finished the three-round tournament with a 2-over par 218 (71-78-69) for her top finish of the year. Her final round score of 69 is her lowest round of her collegiate career surpassing a score of 70 set at the Sun Trust Gator Invite her freshman year. Her 10th place finish is her top finish since placing fifth overall at the Southern Conference championship her freshman year.
UNCG moved up from 13th place in the standings at the beginning of the day to finish in ninth overall in the 15-team tournament. The Spartans fired a 298 Saturday to finish with a score of 907 (301-308-298) while Texas Tech won the event with a 54-hole score of 858 (280-293-285). The final round score of 298 is the second lowest score of the season for UNCG, trailing just an opening round score of 291 at the Cardinal Cup (Sept. 17).
Sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) finished 14th overall on the weekend with a 3-over par 219 (71-72-76) as she finish with her highest score of the weekend in round three. Freshman Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) also posted a 4-over par 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for 61st with a 234 (78-80-76) while sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) placed 65th with a 236 (81-78-77).
The Spartans return to action March 29-31 as they co-host the Bryan National with Wake Forest at the Bryan Park Country Club. The 54-hole event will see 18 holes played each day throughout the weekend at the Triad golf course.
