Cnops Named SoCon Women’s Golfer Of The Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore women's golfer Fanny Cnops (Ghent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) has been named the Southern Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the fourth weekly honor of Cnops' career and the Spartans' second of the year as senior Courtney Taylor earned accolades two weeks ago.
Cnops finished tied for 17th overall at the prestigious Bryan National Collegiate last weekend at Bryan Park Champions Course. The field at the Bryan National was arguably the toughest field throughout the country as it featured 14 nationally ranked programs and 24 nationally ranked individuals, including Cnops ranked No. 61 in the country.
Cnops rebounded from a tough first round score of 78 to work her way up the standings with a 1-over par 73 in round two, before posting her best round of the weekend with a 2-under par 70 Sunday. She moved up 26 spots on the final day with four birdies on the afternoon, including a stretch of three straight on holes No. 7-9.
Cnops finished in front of 12 nationally ranked individuals in the standings with her 221 score in the 54-hole event. She leads the Southern Conference this season with a 73.15 stroke average through 20 rounds and has posted six top-20 finishes in eight events this year.
Cnops and the Spartans return to action this weekend in their final tune-up before the SoCon Championships as they travel to Wallace, N.C., for the Lady Seahawk Classic at the River Landing Golf Course hosted by UNCW.
