Women's Golf Signs Margine Arguello To NLI
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG head women's golf coach Sarah Sargent announced the signing of Margine Arguello (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) to a national letter of intent Wednesday. Arguello is the second signee for Sargent, joining Kristin Powers who signed in February. Both players will join the program for the 2013-14 season.
"I am very excited to have Margine come to UNCG next fall," Sargent said. "She is a strong and consistent player that will bring our team's level of play up. She has been traveling around the continent playing golf for years, which will help her acclimate quickly to the challenging courses that we play."
Arguello, a native of Calle La Bruja, Panama, has spent the past year at the Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., where she also attended the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy as a full-time resident. She placed second overall at the U.S. Kids Teen World Championship in North Carolina last summer with a 223 score (77-74-72).
Arguello won four tournaments in 2012 outside the United States, including three titles in Panama and one championship in El Salvador. She won the Isthmian Tournament with a four-round score of 305 while also claiming titles in Panama at the "Los Intocables" Tournament (73-74), Tucan Tournament (74-76) and the Coronado Tournament (76-75).
Additionally, Arguello won the Central American Championship in 2012 in El Salvador. She also placed 55th at the Doral Publix in 2012 in Miami and was 29th in the Junior British Open in 2010 in Scotland. She attended the Balboa Academy High School in Panama City, Panama for two years while also spending her freshman year at the American-Nicaraguan School in Managua, Nicaragua.
Arguello is the daughter of Humberto and Margina.
