UNCG heads to SoCon Women's Golf Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team will head to the Palmetto State for the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship in Hilton Head, S.C. The three-day event will consist of 18 holes each day Sunday through Tuesday.
Spartan freshman Fanny Cnops is the highest-ranked individual in the field at 53rd nationally, according to Golfweek. Cnops was named SoCon Golfer of the Week for the third time this season after her runner-up finish at the prestigious Bryan National Collegiate April 6-8. She carded a 2-under par 214 (73-70-71) for the 54-hole event. The Spartans finished ninth as a team, in front of three teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.
The winner of the SoCon Championship will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Cnops, Courtney Taylor, Berglind Bjornsdottir, Ana Lucia Martinez and Begona Sarabia will compete for the Spartans.
The first round of play at Moss Creek Golf Club's North Course will begin Sunday at 8:20 a.m.

Tournament notes: Chattanooga's looking to continue its league success, having won the last two titles, while Furman has won 13 of the 18 SoCon tournaments since the event began in 1994. Jordan Britt of Chattanooga was the runner-up last year, helping the Mocs win by 30 strokes over second-place College of Charleston.
