Spartans seventh after two rounds of Pinehurst Challenge
PINEHURST, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team is through two rounds at the Pinehurst Challenge and sits seventh with a score of 596. The Spartans opened with a collective 299 in the first round Monday and followed that up with a 297 in the second at the famed Pinehurst No. 6.
After 54 holes, freshman Fanny Cnops is leading the way for the Spartans in 13th place at 147. She shot a first-round 77 followed by a 2-under par 70 in the second round.
Begona Sarabia played even golf Monday, shooting 74 for both rounds, her best two back-to-back rounds of the spring season. She is tied for 23rd, a stroke back of Cnops.
Berglind Bjornsdottir opened tournament play with a 73, the lowest first-round score for the Spartans. She followed that up with a 77 in the second round and is tied for 32nd place.
Courtney Taylor is tied for 44th at 152 and Ana Lucia Martinez is tied for 52nd at 153.
NC State holds the team lead at 5-under 571. The Wolfpack's Vivian Tsui has the individual lead at 4-under 140.
The final round will be a shotgun start beginning Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.
