Sarabia, UNCG lead SoCon Women's Golf Championship

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Three Spartans are in the top 10 individually and UNCG holds a four-stroke lead over second-place Elon after one round of play at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship. Begona Sarabia has a share of the individual lead after firing a first-round 74 Sunday.
The Spartans ended the day with a total team score of 306.
Sarabia had quite a day for the Spartans, leading UNCG with a 2-over par 74. She shares the individual lead with Elon's Martyna Mierzwa and Alexa Rancourt of Furman.
Only one shot back is UNCG freshman Fanny Cnops, who shot a 75 through 18 holes at the Moss Creek Golf Club's North Course.
Ana Lucia Martinez is also sitting in the top 10, as she is tied for ninth after recording a first-round 78.
Berglind Bjornsdottir finished the day tied for 16th after carding a 79, and Courtney Taylor shot 84, which has her tied for 39th place.
Round two from Hilton Head, S.C., will start Monday at 8 a.m.
