Cross Country/Track Names Alum Ginny Cronley Assistant Coach
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG country/track and field interim head coach Chad Pearson announced the addition of former Spartan runner Ginny Cronley as an assistant coach Thursday. Cronley spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Spartans under former coach Linh Nguyen.
“We are very excited to have Ginny continue her involvement with the UNCG running program as an assistant coach after competing for the Spartans as a student-athlete,” Pearson said. “She was a big part of the UNCG women’s team that won the Southern Conference Championship in 2011 and understands the importance that is placed on distance running success at UNCG. Her understanding of the distance running tradition at UNCG will help our younger student-athletes better understand what it means to run in a Spartan uniform.”
Cronley helped the Spartans place three runners in the top three in both the men’s and women’s Southern Conference Cross Country Championships last season as a volunteer assistant coach. She was also part of the staff last year that saw UNCG post two All-America runners in outdoor track in Paul Chelimo and Paul Katam.
“I am very excited to work with such a talented group of student-athletes at UNCG,” Cronley said. “Chad (Pearson) and Benji (Wetli) are continuing our history of being competitive at the highest level and I think we are all looking forward to some great individual and team performances for UNCG cross country and track & field.”
Cronley was a two-year letterwinner for the Spartans under Nguyen from 2010-12. She was a three-time Academic All-SoCon recipient during her career as she was a Dean’s List member for three semesters and a President’s List member in her other semester.
Cronley helped the Spartans claim the 2011 SoCon Cross Country Championships, winning by an astounding 45 points in the team standings. She placed 16th overall at the event, posting a time of 17:47.70 in the 5,000-meter race. In her first year at UNCG, she placed 17th at the 2010 SoCon Championships with a time of 18:47.92 to help the Spartans finish third overall.
Cronley earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from UNCG in 2012.
