Saina & Kemboi Highlight Day Two At Wake Forest Open
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Lydia Saina (Eldoret, Kenya/Kapkenda Girls School) and junior Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus) highlighted the UNCG track and field programs on day two at the 2013 Wake Forest Open Saturday at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem.
Saina posted an eighth place finish in the 3,000-meter run Saturday, posting a personal-best time of 10:24.67. Chelsea Sumney won the event running unattached with a time of 9:49.65 while Wake Forest's Samantha Jones placed second with a time of 9:5915.
Additionally, junior Kelly Montague (Garner, N.C./West Johnson) finished 11th in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:29.98 while freshman Katherine Link (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) posted a time of 10:36.90 to finish 13th overall.
On the men's side, junior Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus) placed third in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8:43.63. Kemboi finished just out of the top spot held by Jacob Smith (unattached) with a time of 8:40.50 and second place held by Justin Eilerman (Findlay) 8:42.30.
Sophomore Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln) placed 12th in the race with a personal-best time of 9:08.30 while sophomore Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C./Coker College) finished 16th with a time of 9:16.28.
The Spartans return to action March 22-23 at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill.
