No other team in NCAA Division I action either tallied more triples or averaged more three-baggers this past season than the UNCG baseball team.

During a year in which the Spartans won the Southern Conference regular season title with an 18-3 record in conference play, the offense – which averaged 7.3 runs per contest – collected a total of 30 triples.

That number led all of Division I alongside Troy, but UNCG averaged the most triples at 0.56 per game.

Junior outfielder Andrew Moritz set a single-season school record in triples with 10 en route to SoCon Player of the Year honors. The 5-foot-11, 180 pounder tallied back-to-back games with two triples against ETSU and Wake Forest respectively in April.

His 10 triples were second in the nation behind only Arizona State outfielder Gage Canning. Additionally, he leave the Spartans as the school’s all-time leader in triples with 23.

The first-team All-American selection by ABCA/Rawlings was selected in the sixth round (No. 172 overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves. It was the highest selection for a Spartans baseball player in the MLB Draft since pitcher Ryan Clark was taken in the fifth round in 2015, also by the Braves.

Along with Moritz, infielder/outfielder Cesar Trejo finished in the top 15 nationally in triples at six. The Greensboro, N.C., native was selected in the 17th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.

In total, 11 different Spartans recorded at least one triple.
