GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball concluded its fall world series last night at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. Two senior captains picked the teams that would face off in the intrasquad scrimmage. Andrew Wantz (Holly Springs, N.C./Holly Springs) captained the Gold team and Jake Kusz (Durham, N.C./Riverside) led the Navy team.

The two-day event featured a running score from both games. Each team had an opportunity to start one inning each game with the bases loaded. Gold left the first day with a 7-1 lead. Midway through the second game, Navy used some timely offense to take the lead at 9-8. The Gold offense regained and extended its lead with a consistent offense attack throughout the contest. Wantz closed out the last two innings for the Gold team en route to the 16-12 victory.

Wantz’s Gold team had several offensive contributors. Caleb Webster (Randleman, N.C./Randleman) and Josh Madole (Hampstead, N.C./Topsail) each went 4-for-5 with a double. Coleman Sawyer (Greenville, N.C./JH Rose) added a 3-for-5 performance with fellow newcomer Grayson Chapman (Stony Point, N.C./Alexander Central) adding a clutch home run late in the game.

On the mound for the Gold team, Matt Frisbee (Candler, N.C./Enka) went 2.0 innings, striking out a hitter. Wantz closed out the final 1.1 innings, striking out a pair of hitters helping his Gold team earn the win.

Cesar Trejo (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) powered the Navy offense, going 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Kusz added a pair of doubles and Zach Kuchmaner (Charlotte, N.C./Marvin Ridge) went 3-for-5 with a home run.

Jake Lewis (Wendell, N.C./Corinth Holders) tossed 4.2 innings, striking out three hitters on the hill. Newcomer Trey Kissack (Grand Island, Neb./Southeast CC) logged 2.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Kissack retired seven of the eight batters faced in his outing.

UNCG baseball will resume its fall training activities following fall break.
