GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro men’s tennis team will take part in its second match of the spring on Friday, Feb. 7, when the Spartans host Radford at 2 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

The Spartans (0-1) began their season on Sunday, Feb. 3, with a 4-3 setback to visiting Richmond. UNCG picked up three points in singles competition from Nico Grewe, Ollie Palmer and Hugh Knapp.

Grewe recorded the first point of the season for UNCG with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Spiders’ No. 1 seed Brice Polender. Knapp won the first match of his collegiate career, defeating John Walsh by scores of 2-6, 7-5, 6-0. Those victories, coupled with Palmer’s 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Klein Evans, in a clash between No. 2 seeds, allowed the Spartans to pull the match even at 3-3.

Grewe and Palmer were responsible for two wins in the match as they downed the doubles team of Matt Fernandez and Josh Keitelman 6-3.

“We are looking forward to being on our own home courts against Radford,” said head coach Jeff Trivette. “We’ve had a great week of practice and are excited to see what we can do.”

Radford opened its 2019 spring season with a 6-1 victory over N.C. A&T on Saturday, Feb. 2. The Highlanders put together a dominating performance, winning five of the six singles matches in two games. The only match to reach three games went to the Aggies’ Jorge Ivanov, who claimed a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-7) victory.

Radford also snagged the doubles point, winning by scores of 6-3, while the Aggies came away with a 7-6 (7-3) win by the duo of Jorge Goenaga and Hayden Faulkenbury.
