Several Runners Set Personal Bests at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. – UNCG stayed in the Triad for the HPU VertKlasse Meeting on Friday and had several female and male runners set personal records in their respective events.
In the men’s 1,500-meter race William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) set a new personal record with the 10th best time of 3:59.10, and Weston Clayton (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) (4:13.40) and Trelek Jones (4:16.23) also set a personal-bests in the event. Juan Rodriguez turned in a time of 4:06.27 in his first collegiate race in this event. Rodriguez then set a personal-record with the eighth-best time of 1:58.34 in the 800-meter that’s also UNCG’s best time in the event this season. Jonathan Timothy (Greenville, N.C.) finished second in his heat in the event.
Ewan Hynes (Cornelius, N.C./William Amos Hough) ran 16:14.20 in his first 5,000-meter of the season. Palmer Dupree (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Ridge) turned in the best UNCG time in the 100-meter with 11.45.
On the women’s side Kayla Contreras (Ravensdale, Wash./Tahoma) (20:14.98), Ariana Garcia (Beulaville, N.C./East Duplin) (18:47.80), Holly Mordoff (Silver Spring, Md./Clarksburg) (18:54.40) and Lefler McManus (19:55.63) all ran in their first 5,000-meter of the season. Kassidy Dill (Milford, Maine/Orono) set a personal-record in the 1,500-meter with a time of 5:13.71 while Kelsey Barrett (Huntsville, Ala./Buckhorn) had the Spartans’ top time of 5:13.71. Ashlyn Dalton (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport South Manor Jr./Sr) finished sixth in her first-ever 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Anna Habich set a personal-record in the 800-meter.
In the 200-meter Alexis Rice ( Charlotte, N.C./Ardery Kell) had the best time for UNCG this year at 26.24, and Nautica Friday (Lexington, N.C.) improved her top-time with 26.42. Antonia Smith (Benson, N.C./West Johnston) also recorded a personal-best with 27.39. Friday (12.77), Rice (12.87) and Smith (13.08) also set personal-records in the 100-meter.
The Spartans will be off next week and return to action on April 20-21 with the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational.
