Men's Tennis Falls to ETSU to Open SoCon Play

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – UNCG men’s tennis opened up Southern Conference play Saturday morning at ETSU. The Spartans dropped the SoCon opener, 6-1 and fall to 4-3 on the season. ETSU improves to 5-4 on the year.

ETSU earned a sweep of the three doubles competitions to earn the first point of the match. Connor Thomson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) and Ian Melnik (Lawrenceville, Ga./Rivers Academy) fell at No. 1 with Jack Burkill (London, Great Britain/Millfield School) and Marcus Vidgren (Stockholm, Sweden/Stockholm Idrotts Gymnasium) falling at No. 2 at equal scores of 6-2. Logan Walker (Stuart, Fla./Morningside Academy) and Nico Grewe (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) suffered a 6-3 loss at No. 3.

Thompson earned UNCG’s lone victory in the match, defeating Robert Herrera, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1.
