GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s tennis edged out the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. After falling in the doubles competition, UNCG won four of the six singles matches and the final three of the afternoon to earn its second win of the season. UNCG is now 2-2 on the season while Gardner-Webb falls to 1-4.

UNCG went up early in the doubles competition as Corinne Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) and Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) defeated Sarah Rieckmann and Valentine Limauge, 6-2 at No. 2. Nancy Bridges (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) and Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) dropped a 6-4 match at No. 1 and Gardner-Webb took the point after defeating Sophia Adams (Miami, Fla./TERRA Environmental Institute) and Emily Ory (Lafayette, La./Louisiana Connections Academy) at No. 3.

After Blythe fell at No. 4, Bridges redeemed herself with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sandra Bolstad. Garnder-Webb went up 3-1 after Boaz dropped the No. 3 match. UNCG won the final three matches to complete the comeback victory. Taylor handled Rieckmann in straight sets at No. 2, 6-2, 7-5. Brianna Gomez (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) knocked off Paula Romero, 6-0, 7-5 and Adams sealed the victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7) win at No. 5.
