GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore men’s golfer Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) sits in 16th place individually to lead the Spartans after 36-holes of the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate, hosted by N.C. State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Spartans as a team are in eighth place overall in the 14-team field with the third and final round set for Tuesday on the par-72, 7,358-yard course. Brightwell is tied for 16th overall at 1-under par 143 as he opened the day with a 1-over par 73 in round one before carding the Spartans’ lowest round of the day with a 2-under par 70 in round two. He posted five birdies in his second round to go along with his 11 par scores. He ranked 10th in the field in par-5 scoring Monday with a 4-under par.
The Spartans as a team are sitting in eighth place overall at 8-over par 584. UNCG opened with a 295 in round one before shaving six strokes off that score in round two with a 289. North Carolina and N.C. State are tied for the team lead at 16-under par 560 while Campbell is third at 10-under par 566. Individually, Stephen Franken of N.C. State holds a 7-stroke lead on first place with a 13-under par 131 (66-65).
Freshman Nick Lyerly (Salisbury, N.C./East Rowan) finished in a tie for 25th place overall at even-par 144. Lyerly ranks second in the field with 28 pars in the first 36-holes, including 15 in the second round and 13 in the first round. He posted back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 on the consistently strong day.
Junior Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) sits in 45th place overall with a 6-over par 150. Hendrix opened with an uncharacteristic 6-over par 78 in round one before rebounding with an even-par 72 in round two. He posted three birdies, three bogeys and 12 par scores in round two. He ranks third in the entire field in par-3 scoring at 3-under par.
Senior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) finished the day in a tie for 52nd place overall. Stockwell posted a 7-over par 151 as he opened with a 3-over par 75 before carding a 4-over 76 in round two. Sophomore Ben Buben (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day), playing in the lineup for the first time in his career, posted a 10-over par 154 after rounds of 74-80 to sit in 59th place. Sophomore Michael Wicker (Rougemount, N.C./North Durham) played as an individual and finished at 23-over par 167 (83-84).
The field at the 2017 Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate includes the Spartans, NC State (host), Campbell, East Carolina, Francis Marion, George Washington, High Point, James Madison, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, North Carolina, USC Upstate, Chattanooga and Wofford.
