GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s tennis began competition at the Bryan National Collegiate Friday morning. Due to injuries, only three Spartans competed in the event and there was not a team score recorded. Because of potential inclement weather, the day featured two rounds at the Bryan Park Champions Course. Louisa Tichy led UNCG by shooting 15-over par 72 on the day. Natalia Asensio competed in both rounds, shooting 19-over par. Tara Bettle also completed one of the two opening day rounds. The third and final round is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow but is dependent on weather. If there is inclement weather, UNCG and the rest of the field will tee of on Sunday.
Tichy finished the first two rounds tied for 77th of 94 competitors in the event. Tichy shot 82 in the first round before coming back to shoot 77 in the final round. She finished the 36-hole first day with 17 pars and four birdies. She birdied the 15th hole in both rounds.
Asensio is tied for 87th in the event, shooting nine-over in the first round and 10-over in the second round. She finished the day with 20 pars and added a birdie on the ninth hole in the first round.
Tara Bettle competed in the second round of the day. She shot five-over as she recorded 12 pars and a birdie in her 18-hole effort.
