CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The UNCG women’s and men’s cross country teams closed out the 2017 season Friday morning at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at Panorama Farms. The Spartans had six female runners compete on the 6,000-meter course while seven male athletes ran on the 10,000-meter course.
The women’s team finished 34th as a team in the field with freshman India Godlock (Polk County, N.C./Polk County) leading the way. Godlock posted a 146th place finish with a time of 23:02.00, breaking her previous career-best by 15 seconds (23:17.91) set the Pirate Cross Country Invitational.
Freshman Ariana Garcia (Beulaville, N.C./East Duplin) posted a time of 24:19.10 to place 201st overall in the field. Freshman Kassidy Dill (Milford, Maine/Orono) placed 216th overall with a time of 24:44.00 and Madison Owings (Apex, N.C./Apex) posted a time of 24:51.90 in 223rd place, knocking nine seconds off her career best time.
The men’s team finished 32nd overall in the field with junior William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) leading the way. Sandin finished 131st overall with a time of 32:41.80, cutting almost 27 seconds off his previous 10,000-meter time set last year at the NCAA Regional. Freshman Alex Roy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) ran the 10,000-meter distance for the first time in his collegiate career and poste a time of 33:20.00
Sophomore Trelek Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Wake Forest) posted a time of 34:07.50 to finish in 203rd place. Freshman Juan Rodriguez rounded out the Spartans’ top-four finishers in 205th place with a time of 34:10.90.
