Women's Golf Announces 2017-18 Schedule
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG fourth-year women's golf head coach Janell Howland has announced the 2017-18 schedule for the Spartans, including hosting the Starmount Forest Fall Classic and the Bryan National event in the spring.
“I am excited about the schedule we have for next year,” Howland said. “It is a very competitive mix of regional events that we have played before, as well as new tournaments that take us out of the region. This schedule will really bring out the best in our team and show where the program is moving. I am excited to see what they can accomplish!”
The Spartans open the year Sept. 11-12 as they travel to the Lone Star State for the Jim West Challenge hosted by Texas State at the Carlton Woods Course in The Woodlands, Texas. UNCG continues its traveling ways the following week as it heads to Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 17-19 for the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
The Spartans will host their annual Starmount Forest Fall Classic Oct. 2-3 at the Starmount Forest Country Club. The event returned to Starmount last year and UNCG placed fourth overall, led by Lexi Kershaw's (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) sixth-place finish. Joining the Spartans in the field includes Boston University, Queens, Tennessee Tech, The Citadel, William & Mary, Winthrop, NC A&T, NC State, High Point, Marshall, Wofford and Western Carolina.
The Spartans continue the fall schedule October 9-10 as they travel down to Pinehurst #1 to take part in the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston. UNCG closes out the fall season Oct. 22-24 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina.
The Spartans open the spring season with at the annual Kiawah Island Classic February 25-27 for one of the largest collegiate events in the country hosted by the College of Charleston. The event will be played on the Osprey Point and Oak Point Golf Courses on Kiawah Island.
The Spartans continue the spring with their third-straight trip to the Clover Cup March 16-18 in Mesa, Ariz. UNCG travels to Kennesaw, Ga., for the Henssler Intercollegiate March 26-27 at the Pinetree Country Club. The Spartans close out the regular season by co-hosting the prestigious Bryan National Event with Wake Forest April 6-8. The nationally known event will be held at Bryan park in Greensboro.
The 2018 Southern Conference Championships will be held April 15-17 at Moss Creek Golf Course in Hilton Head, S.C. The Spartans finished fifth overall at last season's event in South Carolina with Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) leading the way with a career-best ninth-place showing.
The Spartans return four members of the starting lineup from last year in Kershaw and Asensio, along with sophomores Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) and Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany/Max-Born Gymnasium Germering). Joining the Spartans in 2017-18 are three freshmen in Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany), Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and Sara Rydman (Taby, Sweden).
