Hendrix Sits In Third Place After Two Rounds To Lead Men’s Golf At Linger Longer
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG sophomore men’s golfer Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) sits in third place overall after 36 holes to lead the Spartans at the challenging Linger Longer Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State at Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. The Spartans close out play in the three-day event Tuesday with tee times on hole No. 1 from 9:20-10 a.m. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
Hendrix is third overall in the field that includes 11 top-50 teams and three top-25 programs with an 8-under par 136. He opened the event matching his career-best with a 5-under par 67 Sunday in round one before following that up with a 3-under par 69 in round two. He posted 11 pars, two bogeys and five birdies on the day to sit four strokes out of the lead. Greyson Sigg of Georgia holds the individual lead with a 12-under par 132 (67-65).
The Spartans as a team are in fifth place overall with a 6-under par 570. UNCG posted its second-lowest round of the year in round one with an 8-under par 280 before posting a 2-over par 290 in round two. Fourth-ranked Baylor holds a commanding overall lead with a 26-over par 550 score after recording a 274-276 in the first two rounds.
Freshman Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) is tied for 21st overall with a 1-under par 143. Brightwell opened the weekend with a 1-under par 71 before carding an even-par 72 Monday. He had an up and down round with a team-high seven birdies to go along with three bogeys and two double bogeys.
Junior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) sits in a tie for 29th overall with a 1-over par 145. Cansler posted his second-lowest round of the year Sunday with a 2-under par 70 before recording a 3-over par 75 in round two. He posted 13 pars on the day, including eight pars on his last nine holes.
Junior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Pinecrest) is 4-over par 148 after 36 holes to sit in a tie for 50th overall. Stockwell opened with an even-par 72 before posting a 4-over par 76 Monday with two birdies. Senior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) rounds out the lineup with a 6-over par 150 as he has posted rounds of 76-74. McGlone led the team with 14 par scores in round two.
Joining the Spartans in the field includes host No. 43 Kennesaw State, No. 56 Alabama, No. 51 Augusta, No. 4 Baylor, No. 77 Charlotte, No. 20 Georgia, Maryland, Mercer, No 37 Michigan, No. 45 Middle Tennessee State, No. 55 Ohio State, No. 67 Troy, No. 8 Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth.
