GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s indoor track athletes Shaina Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) posted second place finishes in the mile and 800-meter races, respectively, at the 2014 Dennis Craddock Invitational hosted by North Carolina in Chapel Hill Saturday.
Shaina took home second place honors in the mile distance with a time of 4:53.72, finishing just six-hundredths of a second out of first place. Her time of 4:53.72 is a personal-record, trimming over five seconds off her previous top time of 4:58.68 set in 2012 at the Spire Invitational.
Chelsea notched her best showing in the 800-meter distance with a time of 2:18.02. She placed second behind Ryanna Henderson of N.C. State who won the event with a time of 2:13.73.
The Spartans return to the track March 1-2 at the Southern Conference Championships, held in Winston-Salem at the JDL Fast Track for the second straight year.
