Women's Basketball Heads to Radford for Education Day Matinee

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s basketball is back on the road Tuesday morning as it faces the Radford Highlanders at 11 a.m. for the Highlanders’ education day. The Spartans are coming off of their first home loss of the season Saturday. This will be the first meeting at Radford since the 2011-12 season.

The Spartans lead the all-time series with Radford, 11-8. Despite leading the series, the Highlanders have won the last three contests. Radford knocked off the Spartans last season, 70-54 in Fleming Gym. The Spartans defeated Radford during the 2010-11 season, 73-58. The last win for UNCG at Radford came during the 1996-97 season when both teams were members of the Big South.

UNCG brings a 4-2 record to tomorrow’s contest. The Spartans, picked third in the Southern Conference’s preseason poll, fell to another member of the Big South last week. UNCG dropped a 72-61 contest to the Campbell Camels for the first home loss of the season.

Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads the Spartan offense with 15.0 points per game, shooting .423 (30-for-71) from the field. She has hit 25-percent of UNCG’s three-pointers this season. She also leads the Spartans with 10 steals on the season.

Brandi Fier (South Beloit, Ill./Illinois Central) adds 11.0 points per game and leads the team with 29 assists. The junior has connected at a .375 average from three-point land, sinking three of her eight attempts. Fier shoots .565 from the field and has grabbed 11 rebounds.

On the boards, Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) leads the Southern Conference with 10.7 rebounds per game. She adds 8.2 points per contest. Te’ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central) brings down 6.5 rebounds per game. Twitty is third on the team with a 10.2 points per game average.

Radford enters the matchup with a 2-1 record. The Highlanders have defeated Appalachian State and Tennessee Tech by an average of 20 points. Radford’s loss came to the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, falling 79-46. This will be the second home game of the season for Radford.

The Highlanders were picked to win the Big South Conference in the preseason poll this year. Radford collected seven of the 10 first place votes in the poll. Forwards Jayda Worthy and Janayla White were each named to the Big South’s preseason All-Conference team. This season, Worthy averages 8.3 points per game while bringing down 6.0 rebounds per contest. White has averaged 7.3 points per game and has led the team with 7.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore Khiana Johnson leads the Highlanders with 13.0 points per game, coming off an 18-point effort against Tennessee Tech.
