PALM CITY, Fla. – Two straight tournaments hosted, two straight tournament victories. On Tuesday afternoon, UNC Greensboro men’s golf completed another tournament victory, as the Spartans finished the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate in first place (293-273-284) with a team score of 850. The 850 is the sixth-lowest 54-hole outing posted in program history.

This is also the first time men’s golf has won two tournaments in one season since scoring victories in the Autotrader Collegiate and Southern Conference Championships in 2014-15.

Sophomore Nick Lyerly (68-69-70) was also the individual champion, as he finished the tournament at nine-under. In the third round, Lyerly carded a two-under 70.

Senior Bryce Hendrix (76-69-68) surged into the top five on Tuesday as he finished the third round at four-under 68. While Hendrix recorded a double-bogey on hole 15, the senior rebounded with three-straight birdies.  

As for junior Jonathan Brightwell (74-68-73), he finished the tournament tied for ninth place after finishing the third round at one-over 73.

Junior Grant Powell (76-67-76), meanwhile, ended the tournament with a four-over 76. He finished tied for 25th place.

Rounding out team play was sophomore Zack Swanson (75-77-73), who had his best round on Tuesday at one-over 73. Swanson recorded three four birdies during the 18 holes of play.

In individual play, senior Mark Johnston (73-77-68) moved up the leaderboard in the third round to finish tied for 21st place. The senior was four-under in the third round with four birdies and one eagle against two bogeys. Sophomore Justin Emmons finished tied for 67th place (83-75-77).

The Spartans will head out of the country this weekend, as UNCG will participate in the Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 17-19.
