GREENSBORO, N.C. – The pitching trio of Austin Koehn, Jack Voigt and Alex Hoppe limited the George Mason lineup to three hits and combined for the first UNCG shutout since April 3, 2018, as the Spartans earned an 8-0 victory on Sunday, April 14th.

Koehn (2-1), making his eighth start of the season, came through with his longest outing (seven innings), allowed the fewest hits (two) and tied his single-game high in strikeouts (six) as he picked up his second win. Voigt logged one inning of work, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three, before giving way to Hoppe who surrendered just one walk and tallied one strikeout in the ninth.

The Spartans (22-11), who improved to 19-4 at home, finished with nine hits in the contest. Six went for extra bases, including doubles by Austin Embler, Caleb Webster and Hogan Windish. Windish also came through with a triple on the day, as did teammate Zach Kuchmaner. David Flores smacked a two-run home run in the seventh, capping off a three-run inning.

Webster (2-5, run) was one of three UNCG hitters with multiple hits, along with Windish (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Kuchmaner (2-3, 2 RBI, run).

The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on four hits. The first run crossed the plate when a single down the right field line by Josh Madole scored Embler from third. Two batters later, Windish plated both Webster and Madole with a bases-clearing triple, which gave UNCG the 3-0 advantage.

After Jacquez Koonce was hit by a pitch, putting runners at the corners, Kuchmaner singled up the middle to score Windish from third. Koonce capped off the frame by scoring on a wild pitch to give UNCG a 5-0 lead.

With George Mason (13-21) holding UNCG to just two hits over the next six innings, the Spartans opened the seventh with a double to right off the bat of Windish. Two batters later, Kuchmaner drove a triple to the right field wall, scoring Windish for the sixth run of the game. Flores followed by lifting a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for a two-run home run.
