CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNCG duo of Austin Embler and Zach Kuchmaner finished with three hits apiece as the Spartans recorded 11 hits in a 17-4 setback to North Carolina on Tuesday, April 9th at Boshamer Stadium.

Embler wrapped up his night by going 3-for-5 from the plate, including a double, to close with two RBI and two runs. It is his fourth three-hit game of the season and first since a 3-for-5 outing at Mercer (March 22). Kuchmaner finished 3-for-4 from the seventh spot in the UNCG lineup against the Tar Heels.

UNCG, which slipped to 20-11 in the setback, pounded out 11 hits in 37 official at bats. Four were for extra bases, all doubles, which came off the bats of Embler, Josh Madole, Jacquez Koonce and Zack Budzik. It marks the 12th time this season that the Spartans have tallied double figure hits.

The Spartans sent six pitchers to the mound, including starter Maddux Holshouser (0-1), who took the loss after allowing three runs and walking three UNC hitters in 1/3 of an inning. The bullpen of Corey Jackson, Jeremiah Triplett, Alex Hoppe, Austin Parsley and Colin Best combined for nine strikeouts over the next 7.2 innings. It marks the sixth time this season that UNCG’s bullpen has had at least nine strikeouts in a contest.

Facing a 9-0 deficit in the top of the third, Kuchmaner led off the frame with a single and Koonce followed with a double to put two UNCG runners in scoring position. Two batters later, Embler singled and advanced on the throw as Koonce tallied the first run of the game. Caleb Webster followed with a single to center, plating Embler for the second Spartan run.

The second multi-run inning for the Spartans came in the seventh after Budzik opened with a double into left field. Embler dropped a double to right center, scoring Budzik, before a Madole cranked a double to right-centerfield for the final UNCG run of the game.

The Tarheels (24-9) took advantage of four multi-run innings to come away with their 17th victory in the series.
