GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro 2019-20 indoor/outdoor track & field schedule has been finalized, Coach Pearson announced Monday. The Spartans will begin the new season at JDL Fast Track for the JDL College Kickoff Classic on December 7th in Winston-Salem, NC.
"Overall, we are very excited about our upcoming 2019-20 indoor schedule along with our 2020 outdoor schedule," said Pearson. "We will be visiting venues that have provided great performances in the past for our athletes and we are hoping that will be the case this upcoming season."
UNCG will be a mainstay at JDL, expected to compete at the Early Bird Duals (Dec. 8), JDL College Invite #1 (Jan. 18-19), JDL College Invite #3 (Feb. 2), Camel City Invitational (Feb. 3) and the JDL DMR Invitational (Feb, 21-22). The Spartans first out-of-state meet will be in Blacksburg Va. for the Virginia Tech Invitational (Jan. 10-11). They will return to the commonwealth state on Valentine's Day to compete at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. (Feb. 14-15).
"JDL Fast Track has always been a great place for UNCG to compete and we are excited to return this upcoming indoor season," Pearson added. "Our Virginia Tech and Liberty competitions will provide excellent competition for our athletes to compete at a very high level and hopefully record some PR's while competing at a high effort."
The 2019-20 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Lexington, Va. from February 29 – March 1. Competition will be held at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility. The indoor season will conclude at the NCAA Division I Championships, held March 13-14 in Albuquerque, NM.
To open the outdoor season, UNC Greensboro will head to the coast for the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. (March 13-14). The trip to the beach kicks off three in-state appearances in March for the Spartans. They’ll also compete in the Charlotte 49er Classic (March 19-21) and the Raleigh Relays (March 27-28).
"The outdoor schedule will continue to provide our teams with great opportunities to compete at a high level," said Pearson. "We are excited to return to places like Raleigh, Richmond and Durham for competitions among others as we prepare for our SoCon Outdoor Championships."
A trek up to Richmond, Va. for the Fred Hardy Invite caps off the opening month of the outdoor season, before heading to High Point University for the High Point Vertklasse, April 3-4.
The Spartans will send athletes to multiple meets on April 17. They’ll go toe-to-toe with national competition at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. and Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
"Our teams are familiar with these venues along with the levels of high competition, so we are hoping for some great performances at these meets."
The 2019-20 SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championships take place May 2-3 in Birmingham, Ala. The outdoor season will wrap up at the NCAA Division I Championships, held June 10-13 in Austin, Texas.
