WASHINGTON, D.C. – UNCG men's basketball earns its third straight win on Saturday night after defeating Georgetown 65-61 inside Capital One Arena in the nation's capital. The Spartans proved why they rank among some of the top defenses in the country while playing the Hoyas, forcing their hosts to 19 turnovers and a 37-percent shooting night from the floor.
After spotting their hosts a nine-point advantage in the early goings, the Spartans responded with a 10-2 run to bring the score to 18-17 midway through the first half. UNCG would find itself within a single possession going into the halftime break, sitting three points back from their hosts at 32-29. Sophomore guard Angelo Allegri scored a team-high seven points off the bench in the opening 20 minutes, while the Spartans managed to convert 11 points off the eight Georgetown turnovers they forced in the first half.
The Spartans were the more ready team coming out of the gate for the second half, kicking off the period with a 9-2 run over their hosts. UNCG would lead by as many as seven in the second half, and trail by as many as five, before taking their final advantage of the night on a breakaway dunk from Isaiah Miller with 6:04 remaining. Leading 56-54, the Spartans would hold the Hoyas to just 2-for-11 shooting in the final six minutes while causing three more turnovers to take the final 65-61.
The Spartans scored 23 points off of turnovers in all, while getting 29 of their 65 points off the bench. UNCG's record now moves to 6-2 on the season, with their only losses on the year coming against a No. 3 Kansas team and a buzzer-beater against Montana State.
