GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball head coach Trina Patterson has announced the signings of Khalis Cain and Jay’lin Hastings to National Letters of Intent. They will join the Spartans as freshmen during the 2020-2021 season.

Cain currently attends Mount Zion Christian Academy in Durham, N.C., where she has lettered all four years while helping guide the Mighty Warriors to two state championships during her freshman and sophomore campaigns.

Last season, she averaged 20 points and 15 rebounds per game while also posting season highs of 35 points and 25 rebounds. As a sophomore during the 2017-18 season, she scored 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds during the CAASC State Championship Title Game. The year prior as a freshman, she averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per contest while Mount Zion won the CAASC State Championship.

She will be the first-ever NCAA Division I female student-athlete from Mount Zion.

“We are thrilled to have Khalis join our women's basketball program,” Patterson said. “Khalis will play the center position. She has a skillset to play a traditional center position. She finishes well at the basket, shows excellent timing for blocking shots and she rebounds with authority.”

Hastings attends Deland (Fla.) High School, where she plays for the girls’ varsity team. During her time at Deland, she has twice been chosen Team MVP and was also named first-team all-area by VFPreps in 2018. She has led the team in scoring and rebounding each of the past two years.

Additionally during the 2016-17 season, she earned the Coaches Award for the team.

“We are excited to have Jay'lin Hastings sign with our women's basketball program,” Patterson said. “Jay'lin brings the ability to score in a variety of ways from the forward position. She can score in the low post as well as from the outside.

"Khalis and Jay'lin play with energy, they are workers and they are great teammates.”
