GREENSBORO, N.C.– UNC Greensboro senior men’s golfer Jonathan Brightwell has been named to the final fall watch list for the prestigious Fred Haskins Award, given annually to the most outstanding male collegiate golfer. The award is voted on by peers, coaches and golf media. Brightwell is one of 20 collegiate men’s golfers on the watch list.
“I had a tremendous fall and am honored on the Haskins Award watch list, joined by a lot of great golfers who’ve had similar and great success,” Brightwell said.
The Charlotte native, who is currently ranked No. 8 nationally in Golfweek, twice won individual medalist honors in the fall including a victory in the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate where he sunk a 50-foot birdie putt on the 18thgreen. Prior to that tournament win, Brightwell also won individual medalist honors at the Rod Myers Invitational at 11-under par.
In five fall tournaments, Brightwell earned four top-10 finishes while helping UNCG win the Grandover Collegiate for a second-straight year to cap off fall play.
Brightwell was named Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week three times during the fall while also being named SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Month for September.
Past winners of the Haskins Award include Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
