GREENSBORO, N.C.- UNC Greensboro’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will kick off their 2019-20 seasons on Thursday, Oct. 17, with the sixth-annual Spartan Madness.

Spartan Madness is a UNCG student-only event with doors opening at 7 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium. Students must have valid UNCG identification to attend.

West Drive will be shut down throughout the day on Oct. 17, with the line to enter beginning there. 

No bags are permitted upon entry. 

This year's Spartan Madness will feature a one-hour concert by Young Nudy and LightSkinKeisha. 

In addition to seeing this year’s teams participate in a skills contest along with the men's team's dunk contest, there will be contests including one student winning a $100 VISA gift card and another student and his or her guest winning a meet and greet with the artists. 

A Glance At The Women’s Squad
The Spartans checked in at No. 5 in the preseason SoCon coaches poll with seniors Nadine Soliman and Te'ja Twitty named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team.

Soliman last season led the conference in points per game (19.1), while Twitty averaged 12.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. 

A Glance At The Men’s Squad
The Spartans were picked to finish in second place in the preseason SoCon coaches and media polls with junior guard Isaiah Miller being named Preseason SoCon Player of the Year. Miller is joined on the Preseason All-SoCon Team by senior forward James Dickey

The Spartans also return a third starter in senior forward Kyrin Galloway, while senior guard Malik Massey will continue to play a valuable role. 

Last season, UNCG won a program-record 29 games and earned the No. 1-overall seed in the National Invitation Tournament. 

Countdown To First Tip
The women's team starts the season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 hosting Richmond for a 5:30 p.m. tip against Richmond in Fleming. 

The men’s team will begin the season hosting North Carolina A&T on Nov. 5 as well for a 7 p.m. tip at the Greensboro Coliseum.
